Intertidal low energy over unconsolidated substrate of unknown texture

Short description

Intertidal low energy over unconsolidated substrate where both biota and texture is unknown.

Disclaimer: Ecosystem type descriptions are based on biophysical attributes identified in Central Queensland through expert advice and supported by scientific literature. Not all ecosystem types are mapped based on current inventory, and many of the ecosystems described here may also occur in other parts of Queensland.

Long description

Intertidal low to very low energy over unconsolidated substrate where both biota and texture is unknown. Reflects a data gap in Sediment texture inventory. The purpose of this type is to identify gaps in data.

Special values

See other intertidal low energy unconsolidated ecosystem types (29, 31, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39).

Diagnostic attributes

Inundation 'Intertidal – Lower low', 'Intertidal – Mid low', 'Intertidal – Upper low', 'Intertidal – Low undifferentiated', 'Intertidal – Lower medium', 'Intertidal – Upper-medium', 'Intertidal – Medium undifferentiated', 'Intertidal – High', 'Intertidal – Undifferentiated', 'Intertidal – High undifferentiated'

Energy magnitude (wave) 'Low', 'Very low'

Structural macrobiota 'Unknown'

Consolidation 'Unconsolidated'

Sediment texture 'Unknown'

Qualifiers

Not mapped.

Distribution

The following relates to distribution of this ecosystem type within the Central Queensland mapping area:

  • Reflecting the very low resolution of Sediment texture mapping due to lack of inventory and lack of modelling to produce high confidence sediment maps.

Comments

A fundamental data gap in the intertidal area is the lack of Sediment texture mapping, as soils maps usually do not extend into tidal areas. With better field inventory in future this type should disappear.
