Unrestricted to all levels of government and community. Data is available to all government agencies, community groups and individuals. Dataset is available through physical supply and may be made available via web delivery tools, for example, through DNRME's internet sites.
Supplemental information about the data
Projection: Geographic Scale: Not applicable Map Number: Not applicable Horizontal Datum: GDA94 Vertical Datum: Not applicable
The dataset is a reference layer for spatial information systems in Queensland.
For coastal Local Government areas, the Local Government area comprises the mainland and all islands above their respective sea-shores within the encompassed area, except for Brisbane Local Government area, which comprises the mainland above Low-Water Mark and includes the whole of Fisherman, Green, Mud and St Helena Islands (being islands situated in or adjacent to Moreton Bay) above the Low-Water Mark, excepting land lying below High-Water Mark on both banks of the Brisbane River and any other river, creek or stream within the area.
Although Weipa Town LG area is not included in the Local Government Act, it is recognised as a Local Government under the Commonwealth Aluminium Corp Pty Ltd Agreement (Weipa Town Plan) Regulation 1994 Sub Legislation No 339.
Although the Island community councils are also not included in the Local Government Act, they are recognised as Local Governments under the Community Services (Torres Strait) Act and associated Regulations.
The Queensland Locality Boundaries dataset can be downloaded via the Queensland Spatial Catalogue (QSpatial) website: at http://qldspatial.information.qld.gov.au/catalogue/

Report
Data quality report, measure description
The Local Government Boundaries Dataset consists of polygons in a single layer. Polygons are contiguous with surrounding polygons. Any errors found are corrected and the data reprocessed.

Completeness of coverage : Complete. This dataset contains all the Queensland Local Government Areas constituted under the Local Government Act 1993. This dataset also includes the Weipa Town and the Island community councils recognised under other legislation in order to have a more complete dataset.
Completeness of verification : The validation process consisted of the visual inspection/comparison of hard copy output against the gazetted departmental Local Government Boundary (LGB) maps. (Please note that these LGB maps still remain the point of truth for local government boundary descriptions).
Report

The attributes in the Local Government Boundaries Dataset are Administrative Area Type, Administrative Area Name, LGA Code, Abbreviated Administrative Area Name, Proper Case Administrative Area Name and Area in square kilometres. The attribute accuracy is 98% reliable.

No positional accuracy statements are attached to this file. The positional accuracy of the data is equivalent to that of the DCDB at the time of the extraction. There may be degradation of the positional accuracy in the translation to MapInfo and ArcView formats.
Data Lineage
Lineage statement, a general explanation
The Local Government Boundaries Dataset is created by combining all polygons from the Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB) using the attached Local Government Codes as as the common linking attributes. The dataset is extracted and recreated on a nightly basis and compared to the latest approved version to determine if there are changes to the Local Government boundaries. Any changes are verified before the approved version is overwritten.
