Supplemental information about the data
Nature Refuges are part/s or whole of Lot/s on plan and are gazetted through a voluntary conservation agreement between the QLD government and private land owner/s. They are based in statute and are a recognised class of Protected Area as defined by the Nature Conservation Act, 1992. Nature Refuge boundaries are primarily defined using DCDB parcels, with GPS data collected for partial boundaries. Boundaries following creeks or irregular boundaries are digitised. Relevant boundaries are updated to coincide with the DCDB current at the date of publication using topological rules.

Data Lineage
Lineage statement, a general explanation
Data was extracted from the Queensland Digital Cadastral Database (where whole of lot nature refuges were generated) or captured via GPS/DGPS units in combination with derived GPS points using imagery, local natural features and existing infrastructure (where part of lot nature refuges were generated) to create a single shapefile of the nature refuges. The file is then checked and edited by the nature refuges unit staff to ensure accuracy and quality, with additions to the dataset of newly generated nature refuges, on a quarterly basis following decleration under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
