Excavation in a riverine channel

Excavation within a riverine channel increases the extent and/or depth and may increase the persistence of water in the wetland. The wetland remains a riverine wetland system as changes in water level and extent are contained within the channel boundaries.

Applicable Wetland Habitat Hydrological Modification:

  • 'Modified – excavation in a channel – freshwater wetland with no system change' (H2-M10-a)

Excavation in a riverine channel causing wetland system conversion

Excavation within a riverine channel removes natural tidal barriers enabling tidal inundation. The wetland is converted to an intertidal wetland.

Applicable Wetland Habitat Hydrological Modification:

  • 'Modified – excavation in a channel – freshwater wetland with system change to intertidal' (H2-M10-c)
